Does being a member of a dance team benefit our individuality or take away from it?

6. Thoughts from me:
We've all had that thought of, "I'd rather do the choreography my way rather than their way."
The idea ruminates in our minds, especially when cleaning a routine for numerous hours.
A dance team is made up of individuals who have a diverse range of different strengths, but have the capability to come together to perform as one.
As members of a dance team, often we have to minimize individual expression by cleaning each move to the way of the team.
I can see how dance team could potentially offset some aspects of individuality.
You have to focus on moving as one and performing the moves precisely with the entire group as opposed to how you interpret it.
On the other hand… I believe the benefits of being a part of a dance team and learning how to dance in unison with your teammates far outweigh the possibility of minimizing individual expression.
I think the important thing to remember here is that while dance team does require you to conform to the team, you don’t have to lose your own *sparkle* that makes you shine.
Take the things that you learn from dancing with the team, add those qualities to your individual expression, and find how it can benefit you!
Express yourself, enjoy the team aspect, and become the best dancer you can be in the studio and on the court/field. Versatility and adaptation is key.

8. Things to keep in mind / Moving forward:
Individuality can be highlighted and developed on a dance team, it doesn't have to be diminished. Individual expression is what makes the team so powerful.
Moving forward, can we create an even larger space for individual expression to be highlighted in a routine/on the sidelines/on the court? If so, how?
